Saturday Night Design

2011 Visual Communication Design Senior Exhibition took place at ArtSpace for two nights.  Much unlike most Art shows, each artist displayed their work to have interaction with the visitors.  There were many fine displays, sorry it's up for just a day.  Next time.  Meanwhile, here are a few of the artists participating:

Christa Tubach
Robert Machuga
Kristen Gentile
Joshua Parent
Karah Shulansky

So Much Art

The walls of Newington Town Hall are alive with Art!  The Townwide Student Art Exhibition is up until May 23rd.  So many media, so many styles, so many artists, we can't bring them all to you here.  But try to get to the show.  Tonight is another opening reception from 6-8:30with lots more artists.  It's nice to know that Art is alive and well with the young people of Newington.  Congratulations to the teachers.  And the artists.

Saturday Night Openings

We began this rainy night at the Silpe Gallery at the Hartford Art School.  While several students from Media Arts had videos in the galleries, Kate Szalay was the only senior presenting her thesis.

Next it was ArtSpace for the Dreams and Nightmares Exhibition by the Illustration Class of 2011.  The great room was steamy and there was lots of Art to see.

A good time was had by all.
Finally, I made my way over the mountain to the Gallery on the Green in Canton.  The new show is called Apparitions, Milestones and Reflections: work by Robert Dente.  The old two-room school makes a very nice gallery space.

Art about Town

The 20th Annual Alumnae/i Art Show opened at the Renbrook School.  A variety of media was on display from twenty-six artists, with a good many of the tags sporting a small red dot.  Here are a couple of pieces.

Reed Ladders by Beannie Kaman
Salmon Vase by Tim Scull
The show is open to the public and runs through April 21st.  I was interested to learn that the Renbrook School is housed in the former home of Pratt & Whitney founder Frederick Rentschler.

Unspeakable Things is the name of the show of art by Hartford Art School seniors at the Silpe Gallery.  Despite the rain, the opening was well attended.  Here are most of the participants

Kelly Griffin
Brittney Jefferson
Scott Nikola
 Jaclyn Rubino

The show runs until April 21st.
