Ascension
You could almost hear the music coming from the photographs of jazz musicians hanging in the Conrad L. Mallett Gallery at Capital Community College. No, that was the music coming from the other side of the lobby where more Art was displayed. The Ascension show remains until August 21st. Here are some of the participants:

Meanderings and Ramblings
It was opening night for Barbara Hocker's solo exhibition at the 100 Pearl Street Gallery, presented by the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Meanderings and Reflections is the name of the exhibition and I'm sure you can get into the spirit after looking at Barbara's work for a while. The show is up until September 7th.

There was lots of Art to see in downtown Hartford for First Thursday. First was the special show at the Hartford Courant Gallery at the Wadsworth Atheneum where 16 artists who will participating in next Fall's Open Studio Weekend displayed work as a sort of kick off. I understand the Art will remain through the weekend. Here are some of the participants.

Over at the Pump House Gallery on the edge of Bushnell Park, we found a lively gathering admiring the paintings by Linn Bae. Linn also had a piece in the Wadsworth show.

At the Hartford Public Library there was a show of ten paintings of Mark Twain done by Tony Koos as a benefit to the Bushnell Park Foundation and Hartford Public Library. The Art remains on display, and for sale, through the end of the month.
